Karel De Grote Hogeschool | Antwerpen | Voltijds
Functieomschrijving
Do you fancy using your IT experience to guide young people to help build a promising future? The Applied Computer Science programme at KdG University of Applied Sciences and arts is growing fast, so this year, we are again looking for enthusiastic colleagues to strengthen our team.
Docent Lecturer for the Applied Computer Science programme - 100 %
We strongly believe in an educational model that starts from a coaching role rather than from a role as a “teacher” to prepare our students for a future where, especially with the rise of Generative AI, “lifelong learning” is a must. Our hands-on approach with many practice sessions, integrated projects, and project-driven internships has been appreciated for years by the organisations where our young force works.
We are currently looking for reinforcement for the Data & AI, System and Network Administration, and Programming fields, and we also need coaches for the integration projects. You can combine teaching in the Dutch-language day course, the international English-language day course, and the Dutch-language evening course.
What does the job entail?
- We are looking for reinforcement in the following areas, among others, both in English-spoken classes as in Dutch-spoken classes: (adaptable to the interest and expertise of the new lecturer)
- Software Development / Programming
- Data & AI
- IT Infrastructure / System and Network management
- Coaching students during projects and internships
- Classes are delivered in Dutch and/or English to local and international target audiences.
- You develop new learning content and innovative teaching methods with colleagues within your discipline and the educational support staff. Often, this means adding and adapting elements, but also making the difficult choice of removing topics. Your practical work experience is a source of inspiration here.
- You walk around the classroom or the aula to explain the theory and coach students during their exercises. You support students in their learning process through a practical and coaching approach. In this way, you contribute to the personal growth of our students.
- Dutch-spoken evening classes are organised in a “Flip the classroom” methodology whereby the teacher offers the subject matter in a condensed manner, usually in an online class, but on-campus is also possible. Students deepen their knowledge and practice the skills during their own time at home.
You can expect to teach 1-2h lessons per week per subject, between Monday and Thursday, 6 pm to 10 pm and additional coaching online.
What is your profile?
- You have experience in one or more of the fields mentioned above. You know better than anyone how things work in the business world and can translate your expertise and knowledge to the students..
- You are convinced of the importance of lifelong learning. You monitor innovation in the applicable fields and integrate this into your teaching approach. Educational innovation is a theme you enjoy exploring.
- You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in (applied) Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics or related/equivalent. You can demonstrate your work experience in the applicable domain.
- A teaching degree is not a necessity. However, you do have a big heart for our students and their future.
- You are a constructive team player who brings out the best in yourself and others. You respect all team members' opinions and always seek consent agreements with your colleagues.
- A C1 English certificate is required for the English-language course. Don't worry if you can't yet demonstrate this. We will gladly help you get started through our IELTS test and the necessary guidance. Each employee must prove at least a B2 level in Dutch after 5 years of employment.
What do we offer you?
- A warm welcome to an education team of colleagues from diverse backgrounds, all with the same goal: to help students build their career paths and realise their dreams! As a new teacher, you can also expect didactic and educational guidance.
- In addition to a KDG-wide welcome day where you will get to know KdG better as an organisation, you will also have the opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of internal and external training offers.
- An environment where diversity and inclusion are key, and we encourage everyone to become their best version. We strongly believe in the power of differences and complementarity.
- A part-time or full-time assignment as a contractual employee. We create assignments tailored to your interests and areas of expertise. The assignment percentage can vary between 40% and 100% and offers a long-term perspective for our team. You will start on 1 September with a one-year contract, to extend (after a positive evaluation).
- As a Bachelor’s degree holder, you are paid a salary according to the pay scale for a practical lecturer (316) and as a Master’s degree holder, according to the pay scale for a lecturer (502). Click here for more information. Please note that useful professional experience outside education may be taken into account to determine your seniority.
- Commuting by public transport is 100% reimbursed. If you come by bike, you get €0.27 per km.
- Benefits such as flexible working hours, the possibility of hybrid working, a laptop (from 30% assignment), an attractive number of holidays (55 days for a full-time assignment ), an internet allowance of 20€ per month, a teacher's card offering you numerous benefits and the option of hospitalisation insurance at a favourable rate.
