(Practical) lecturer Applied Computer Science – Software Development (50 to 100%)

 Who are we?

KdG University of Applied Sciences and Arts has 9 campuses, 38 bachelor’s degree programmes, more than 100 continuing education opportunities, 6 research centres, about 14,700 students, and 1,599 employees. We aim to be an employer where you can truly feel at home.

Do you feel like using your IT experience to guide young people and help build a promising future? The Applied Computer Science program is once again looking for enthusiastic colleagues to strengthen our team.

We strongly believe in an educational model in which teachers primarily take on a coaching role rather than that of a traditional lecturer. In this way, we prepare students for a future in which lifelong learning is essential, especially with the rise of Generative AI.

Our practice-oriented approach, featuring many hands-on sessions, integrated projects, and project-based internships, has also been highly appreciated for years by the organizations and companies where our graduates ultimately start their careers.

What is your role?

We are currently looking for a new colleague within the Software Development domain who can also coach students during projects and internships. These assignments can be combined within:

  • the Dutch-language daytime program,
  • the international English-language daytime program,
  • and the Dutch-language evening pathway.
  • Courses are taught in Dutch and/or English to a local and international audience.
  •  Together with colleagues within your field and educational support staff, you develop new learning content as well as teaching methods. This often involves adding and adapting elements, but also making the difficult choice to remove certain topics. Your practical experience serves as an important source of inspiration.
  • You move around in classrooms and lecture halls to explain theory and guide practical exercises. You support students in their learning process through a hands-on, coaching approach, thereby contributing to their personal development.
  • Evening classes are organized using a “flipped classroom” methodology, where the lecturer provides condensed course material, usually in an online format, though on-campus sessions are also possible. Students then deepen their knowledge and practice their skills independently at home.

What is your profile?

You have experience in software development. You have a strong understanding of the professional field and can translate your expertise into accessible learning experiences for students.
You are convinced of the importance of lifelong learning, actively follow new developments, and integrate them into your teaching approach. You are enthusiastic about educational innovation and modern teaching methods.

Additionally:
● you hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in (applied) computer science, engineering sciences, electronics-ICT, or an equivalent qualification;
● a teaching qualification is an asset, but not required;
● you are willing to work evenings and Saturdays;
● above all, you have a big heart for students and their future.

You are a critically minded team player who brings out the best in yourself and others. You value different perspectives and collaborate with colleagues to reach well-founded decisions.

For the English-language programs at KdG, a C1 level of English is required. If you are not a native Dutch speaker, you must hold a B2 level certificate in Dutch or be willing to obtain this as soon as possible.

What do we offer you?

  • A full-time/part-time assignment as a contractual employee. You start on September 1, 2026 with a contract for one year, with the intention of extending (after positive evaluation).
  • As a Bachelor’s degree holder, you are paid a salary according to the pay scale for a practical lecturer (316) and as a Master’s degree holder, according to the pay scale for a lecturer (502). Click here for more information. Please note that useful professional experience outside education may be taken into account to determine your seniority.
  • Benefits such as flexible working hours, hybrid work (optional), a laptop (from 30% contract), a contribution for internet of €20 per month ,a nice number of vacation days (55 days for a full-time contract), benefits @ work, a teacher's card offering you numerous benefits and optional hospital insurance at a favourable price.
  • Your colleagues are ready to give you the help you need from the very beginning.
  • An environment in which you receive plenty of opportunity and the responsibility to carry out your assignment.
  • Three times per academic year, we organize a KdG-wide onboarding day where you will get to know the organization better. In addition, you will have access to a wide range of internal and external training opportunities.
  • Our commitment to continuously build an inclusive work environment where everyone can be themselves and learn from each other. We strongly believe in the power of difference and complementarity and are convinced that a diverse pool of colleagues and an inclusive context make us all better, stronger and more talented.
  • We reimburse 100% of your travel expenses if you use public transport for your commute. You will be paid a €0.27/ km bicycle allowance if you commute by bike.
