Lab space affordable housing phase 2: design research

Although much research has already been conducted into the issue of affordability – including solutions within the private construction sector – the closed-loop model remains relatively marginal today. In our view, a key challenge lies in deepening these models within the research process. We note that the issue of affordable housing has now been widely analysed: the problem has been clearly identified, and various possible solutions have already been formulated. Nevertheless, a persistent gap remains between theory and practice. The proposed models often fail to deliver in the areas where they appear most desirable and feasible on paper.
This is precisely where we want to focus our efforts: we believe that scale and organisational model are fundamentally linked and that together they play a key role in the successful realisation of affordable housing models. To better understand this, we want to consciously focus on additional analyses of the impact factors of scale and organisation of the various closed-loop models within this project, so that we can test them in the spatial domain.
