This project develops an evidence-based guide for all podiatrists in Belgium. The guide provides clear recommendations, referral red flags, and outlines the limits of podiatric practice. It targets podiatrists and collaborating healthcare professionals.

Need and relevance
Podiatrists often face complex decisions when treating lower limb complaints. The lack of standardised guidelines can lead to inconsistent care. This guide responds to the need for clarity, patient safety, and better interprofessional collaboration.

From approach to impact
Coordinated by Haute École Libre de Bruxelles, the project brings together a Dutch-speaking university college and two methodological experts. Input from podiatrists and patients ensures a practice guide grounded in scientific evidence. The final bilingual guide will be publicly available and will include:

  • recommendations for best practice

  • a red flag list indicating when to refer

  • transparency on how the guide was developed

This initiative promotes a consistent, safe and evidence-based podiatric practice across Belgium.
