RCMC Demolab
Digital Health is a significant development in the healthcare sector and a growing component of the (healthcare) economy. Numerous technological solutions already exist to digitally manage specific aspects
of healthcare remotely. For example, solutions are already available to organize remote care and replace snapshots with continuous monitoring of disease processes. However, such solutions are not yet widely implemented in the current healthcare system. The reasons for this are diverse and occur at various levels. At the healthcare provider level, the literature speaks of a lack of knowledge and experience, but also of a reluctance to change, leading to continued adherence to existing systems. Furthermore, there is a need for improved interaction between companies active in the MedTech sector and healthcare organizations. Both the knowledge and experience among healthcare providers and the interaction between healthcare organizations and MedTech companies will be addressed within this project. Within the proposed infrastructure of the new RCMC Demolab, digital care pathways and technological solutions for continuous patient monitoring can be tested and validated in an environment that ultimately reflects reality. The focus here is on two elements within the RCMC Demolab. Within the simulation section (the so-called "s(l)imlab") of the RCMC Demolab, the focus is on data collection in the most realistic environment possible. Measurements are collected using technological solutions (e.g., wearables) on simulation manikins and/or simulants. Within the control center of the RCMC Demolab, a lab space will be set up where, among other things, healthcare professionals will learn how to visualize monitoring data from wearables, including the necessary context data and the associated alarms, notifications, and action requests. The connection between the s(l)imlab and the control center also allows for the testing and validation of communication protocols between the monitoring team (control center) and the healthcare providers and patients (s(l)imlab) through simulation and co-creation. The RCMC Demolab will therefore simulate real-life situations without being limited by the legal framework of the real-life situation (MDR, GRPR, clinical trial legislation). The RCMC Demolab therefore allows for further experimentation and the development of the necessary innovations for realizing remote monitoring. The Demolab will be embedded in the Digihub of the BioVille incubation center on the Diepenbeek Health Campus. This will enable close interaction and collaboration with scientific research, the healthcare sector, and businesses.
