Pas(s)Time (Sun in an Empty Room)
What do we experience as the 'NOW', as the absolute present? What exactly does it mean to 'be in the
moment' and how long does such a moment last in a hurried world where speed has become an indicator
of status? How does time move inside versus outside the camera, what are the differences between filmic-
time and physical-time? What metaphors and myths do we use when referring to time and how
representable is this time? What are possible alternatives to "the order" of linear time and how can these
be established? This research uses the 'time-based medium' of analogue film to ask these and other
questions. It aims to study time, its passage and its disintegration, and tries to translate it visually. The
filmcamera is hereby used as a measuring instrument to study not the movement of bodies or objects, but
the movement of time itself.
