FLOATS & STRINGS

FLOATS & STRINGS focuses on the positive and ethical use of AI as a virtual extra member of a musical ensemble, capable of reacting in real-time to what is being played. Through the generation of a score, the AI assumes the role of composer and arranger is filled by AI at superhuman speed, while the role of performer remains 100% human.

For this project, we collaborate with B-Classic, an organization specializing in progressive approaches to music creation and experience. Classical musicians from the renowned Bryggen ensemble are challenged by the system to interpret and perform the presented score 'a prima vista'. This requires great talent and virtuoso technique, as well as the willingness to push the boundaries and move more freely. This exchange between improvisation, artificial intelligence, and scores generated on-the-spot results in a new way of making music, which we aim to improve, demonstrate and disseminate widely in this project.
