The valorisation project 'Refters and Playgrounds' translates research insights into practical tools to improve the quality of midday breaks in Flemish primary schools. The project focuses on providing concrete recommendations for principals and policy officers and tools for teachers and child supervisors who supervise midday breaks. Via five work packages, the results will be elaborated and disseminated:

  1. Project management: coordination of planning, budget management and quality assurance.
  2. Translating research findings: drafting action-oriented key messages for principals, focusing on structure, infrastructure and supervision.
  3. Knowledge Clips: creation of knowledge clips to guide boards in the implementation of recommendations, focusing on A) structuring lunch breaks, B) adjustments in infrastructure, C) supervisory team composition and training.
  4. Poster design: developing a poster (visual reminder) with practical tips for teachers and child supervisors, focusing on conflict prevention and reduction of over-stimulation.
  5. Communication and Promotion: targeted campaign to widely disseminate the materials and promote implementation in schools

The project aims to improve the organisation of lunch breaks, reduce conflict and create a calmer school climate, with lasting impact on pupils' well-being and learning performance, and staff well-being.
