This project builds on the project “Parental involvement in residential youth care” (project code: 9/DWO/2024/SW/P204). For this purpose, a monitoring instrument on parental involvement was developed in co-creation with actors from the field, based on input obtained from care providers, parents and children in residential youth care.

In this follow-up project, we first want to focus on measuring the effectiveness of the existing monitoring instrument in residential youth care. We will use a broad view of ‘effectiveness’ and investigate five dimensions of it (as described by Hermans, 2008), namely intervention effectiveness, implementation effectiveness, cost effectiveness, experience effectiveness and context effectiveness.

In addition, in this follow-up project we also want to expand the usability of the existing monitoring instrument with two purposes. On the one hand, we want to make parental involvement measurable within youth care in outpatient settings, on the other hand, we also want to facilitate monitoring parental involvement outside a care context and therefore more from a preventive framework via this measuring instrument.

Finally, we aim to design a toolkit that, in addition to a measurement instrument for monitoring parental involvement, also contains educational materials for care providers and parents to address areas for growth with a view to maximizing parental involvement in the parent-child relationship.
