This project focuses on the development and evaluation of a model for dual learning in STEM within the context of progression to higher education, embedded within the ‘authentic learning’ research strand. In collaboration with STEM-related companies, pupils in the final two years of secondary education are given the opportunity to undertake a short-term mini-work placement. During these mini-work placements, pupils work on authentic STEM tasks in a realistic professional context, with a focus on strengthening subject-specific, problem-solving and research-oriented STEM competences.

Results

The results will culminate in a transferable model for schools and businesses, with specific recommendations for policy and practice relating to authentic STEM learning and talent development.
