The merger of virtual, augmented and interactive technology has been revolutionizing our life, including
performing arts. Advanced digital technologies offer artists devices able to capture instrumental gestures and to
generate from this tactile input, sonic and visual outputs. What is the role of gestural interaction to enhance
today’s music expressivity? How can I contribute as an artist-researcher to its development in the perspective of
immersive and interactive performances, especially for the participation of an audience in remote conditions with
venues closed and concerts socially distanced?
In combining art-science-technology, my multidisciplinary project T*ActiLE:TechnologyandAction-led Experience
wants to bring my expertise, as a pianist-researcher oriented to innovative approaches, towards an investigation
on gestural interaction and technological applications as a performative-based tool to develop expressiveness and
creativity in contemporary music performance.
The generative process of this research entails the collaboration with supervisors and artist-researchers of
CREATIE and MAXlab groups at RACA and RAFA, and external partners (IPEM-GHENT, GOLDSMITHS-LONDON). To encourage the exchange of knowledge in higher art education, I will offer a Mirroring Creative Lab
on music performance practice and biofeedback technology and a Symposium on human-machine interaction.
Pioneering performative paradigms on the role of gestural interaction will be outcomes of this multidisciplinary
research that will contribute to opening new horizons in tomorrow's music performance research.

Results

- Categorization and score annotation of a vocabulary of visual and sonified gestures, useful to other artist-researchers, composers and performers, and new performative formats
- Audio/video recordings, CD/DVD of the repertoire broadcasted via website, youtube channels, radio/tv shows
- A Mirroring Creative Lab and a Symposium
- Two publications (e.g. Journal of Artistic Research, FORUM+)
