Tools for Social Entrepreneurship Education
In the Netherlands and Belgium, citizenship skills are considered basic skills. However, there is insufficient focus on developing civic engagement within citizenship education (Inspectie van het Onderwijs, 2022). Teachers experience action deficiencies regarding this aspect of citizenship education. Education in Social Entrepreneurship (= education at the intersection of Learning for Sustainable Development and Entrepreneurship Education) is a way to shape the development of civic engagement.
Within the lectorate Education and Social Entrepreneurship at Marnix Academy, design principles for teachers shaping Social Entrepreneurship education have been developed in collaboration with a primary school over the past two years (see Amels, 2023). The teachers from that project expressed a need for concrete suggestions for interventions/materials to be used in designing and implementing education, such as descriptions of possible methods and materials for (the different components of) teaching Social Entrepreneurship.
The first goal of this design research by PXL University of Applied Sciences and Marnix Academy is to (further) clarify the perceived lack of action and support needs of (future) primary school teachers in designing and implementing (components of) Social Entrepreneurship education.
Second aim is to develop a digital toolkit Social Entrepreneurship in which previously developed design principles are guiding and which meets the support needs of (prospective) primary school teachers.
