The challenges in the care for people with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) are multifaceted and leave much room for improvement. By
harvesting the full potential of inclusive technologies, in a collaboration between people with ID, their support networks, and
researchers, InQLuDID aims to fundamentally improve the quality of life (QoL), inclusion, independence, and empowerment of people
with ID, while optimally supporting their formal and informal caregivers.
InQLuDID aims to develop a novel and comprehensive ecosystem that addresses: 1) early recognition of ID in general practice; 2)
accessible early intervention to enhance development in young children; 3) consistent detection and consequent personalised coregulation
of behaviours that challenge; 4) shared decision-making on pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for
behaviours that challenge; 5) AI-supported, context-sensitive real-time assessment of QoL; and 6) barriers to access to care across
Europe.
Across all domains of this unified ecosystem, the interconnected components will apply adaptive and user-driven solutions at the
intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, and inclusive care, specifically tailored for people with ID. Diversity, including
varying levels of emotional and cognitive functioning, sex, gender, age, and cultural background, will be systematically integrated to
enhance tailoring of solutions to personal needs.
InQLuDID will utilise digital platforms to disseminate project outcomes to diverse audiences, in order to support the sustainable
integration of AI-driven, inclusive approaches into care practices. This will include support and training for caregivers. InQLuDID will
ultimately have a major impact on system-wide reforms aligned with the European Commission’s Disability Strategy and Health
Union objectives, nurturing a financially sustainable, person-centered ecosystem of care for ID across Europe.
