The REC project introduces collaborative reflective methods in ten early childhood education and care centres and primary schools across four European countries. It supports professionals working with children aged 0 to 10 to rediscover their motivation, develop empathy, and reflect with joy and meaning. The focus is on building stronger teams and embedding reflection in daily practice.

Need and relevance

Although reflective practice is a formal requirement in most professional development paths, it is often treated as an isolated, administrative task. REC addresses the urgent need for inspiring, collaborative and tailor-made methods that contribute to real professional growth and job satisfaction. By turning reflection into a shared, engaging process, the project aims to transform how educators learn and grow together.

From approach to impact

The project begins with a European review of existing reflective practices and maps the gaps between practitioners’ needs and current offerings. It then pilots collaborative reflection tools in 10 schools and early years settings, tailored to local needs. These experiences inform a practical guide and policy recommendations. Educators will also exchange practices and visit Belgian centres where reflection is already well integrated. Expected outcomes include more motivated and connected teams, concrete quality improvements, and stronger recognition of reflection as a key element in lifelong learning for educators. The project contributes to more resilient educational communities equipped to meet systemic challenges with confidence.
